In collaboration with Ownix, FC Barcelona joins the NFT bandwagon

The Spanish professional football club Futbol Club Barcelona, or FC Barcelona, is now joining the NFT market in order to expand the club’s global influence. Ownix, an exclusive NFT marketplace, has collaborated with the club. The purpose of launching an NFT collection is to pay homage to the club’s rich heritage.

FC Barcelona has played historic matches, watched historic goals, and cultivated top-tier players over the course of its 122-year history. The team has won 95 domestic and international awards and contests, according to Wikipedia. These trophies will be illustrated on one of the non-fungible tokens (NFT), which will include 26 national league titles and five UEFA Champions League titles.

Is the NFT for FC Barcelona too late?

According to the countdown on Ownix’s website, FC Barcelona’s first NFT release will be on November 24th. However, it appears that they are already behind schedule, as almost two dozen European clubs have their own NFT collections. In fact, Lionel Messi, the team’s former star player who departed for Paris St. Germain, has his own NFT collection.

The construction of these NFTs, according to Laporta, will “make FC Barcelona a well-known club on every level.” While several soccer clubs and leagues have entered the NFT arena, NFTs based on the National Basketball Association are also very popular. Recently, we saw Sorare and Spain’s La Liga form a cooperation to make La Liga the first European soccer league to offer the NFTs of every player on the squad.

Celebrities from many walks of life appear to be focusing on the issuance of unique digital tokens, as many athletes are releasing their own NFTs.
